We did our first review of the Brinks Prepaid Debit MasterCard a few years back and it seems strange that a security company would be in the prepaid card business, but interestingly enough Brinks has a whole division called Brinks Money and their card that started in 2015 in partnership with Netspend has developed a decent reputation over the past few years.
Features and Benefits: Brink’s has been securing cash and valuables since 1859. Brinks partners with Netspend, a respected leader in the prepaid field.Get paid up to 2 days faster with Direct Deposit

This MasterCard is decent. We have rated it with 4 stars. They do offer purchase protection and additional benefits if you direct deposit at least $500 a month (including lower monthly fee). But there are better prepaid Visa and MasterCard offers (see below) and honestly this card looks really similar to a regular Netspend card in terms of the pricing structure- just branded with the Brinks logo.
One helpful tip related to the Pay-As-You-Go plan that we mentioned in our previous review was signing for each purchase your make and having the merchant run your card as a credit card. We suggested this as a way to avoid entering your PIN and being charged 1.50 every time you use your card (was previously $2 per swipe).
Please Note! We now aren’t recommending this strategy anymore because both PIN and signature based transactions now charge the same fee of $1.50 per purchase. Finally, be sure to read customer reviews (complaints and praises) of the Brinks MasterCard below and post your negative or positive review! Problems will be addressed by one of our editors typically within 24 hours.

The day before Mother’s day this year in 2022 I had just got off work and I looked at my phone and I noticed my money was being taken from my card. So I called the police I couldn’t get a cop to do a report until Monday because they were closed. so I closed that card and asked for a new card reported my card stolen and that Monday I had my police report and the location of where it was taken from because it stated on my transaction why haven’t they investigated it and they said they couldn’t pay me for my dispute. Try again later.
Thank you again.

Even after they closed my account they continued to hold my funds and never sent me a check in the mail. This is very poor customer service in terms of communication with customers on their account updates.
I have requested now my that my account funds be sent to me and they said it will take 10 business days. I will update if there are any additional issues with this.

I closed my Wells Fargo checking account and closed out my bank debit card.
I have had the Netspend prepaid card, but want to apply for the Brinks card as I don’t like Netspend (just got it for my tax refund this year).
I want Brinks prepaid card so I can get check deposit ASAP. My car is down and I have no way to get to the bank right now. 🙁
Any advice?

Please stay away from Brinks Prepaid debit card. Communication with customer is very poor (on a scale of 1-10, I will give them a 1 star rating for communication).
Basically, I opened up a brinks prepaid debit card online and several months after my online account access was block. I called them and they requested I submit my social security number (SSN) and govt issued identification to comply with account verification. I sent them copies of my SSN and driver license Id on 01/04/2021. They told me that no further action is needed from me and someone will follow up with my after reviewing the documents. So I stayed mute thinking all was ok. Then I tried to transfer some automated fund in 04/01 into my prepaid card from an external bank and it was returned to me as account closed.
I called brinks prepaid card customer service and they told me that my account was closed on 03/16/2021 and I wasn’t even notified via email or regular mail. I asked why and I was told that even though they received my documents and they verified it, they expected me to call them and I failed to and hence they closed my account.
Meanwhile I was told they will contact me and they never did. I even have an email confirming that I have no action to take while my document was reviewed. Here is the email.

Thank you for submitting your documents! You do not need to take any additional action at this time. Our team will review the documents you sent within 6 business hours and provide you feedback via return e-mail. Thank you again.

Nedu-
Greetings and thanks much for sharing your poor rating of Brinks. This is definitely bad service by anyone’s measure.
Pls do share if you get your money back and what your plans of for getting a new replacement MasterCard or Visa (I assume with another company).
I would like to apologize I was a little heated due to my frustration to any card linked to INGO. One of my goals is to have and distribute my own prepaid card and I have the contacts to make it happen one day. I have a Netspend Card, Brinks Prepaid Master Card and a few others that use INGO as a 3rd Party mobile check merchant and neither of the mobile upload features work. The app just crashes.
The issue is the redirect coding within the app. I am guessing INGO provides these companies with a drag and drop code string to redirect to their app and this is never a good idea without using Deep Linking. If the code string for a Deep Link from Bank to Ingo is “default” then the target app must be downloaded as well in order to sync. This may be the reason for the multitude of mobile deposit crashes.
The other option is “deferred” which is more complexed. If the individual receiving the code string is not aware of this and drops the line code in you get an app that will crash when attempting to link from app to app.
Edit
Again apologies extended. The Discover Bank Card is actually a debit card and I love it. PNC is prepaid and fantastic as well. Discover banks customer service division based out of Colorado is very good, the people are ridiculously nice, helpful, patient and professional. I do not feel that warmth with US Bank and Ingo. Discover and PNC do not use this company which is why the experience is a breath of fresh air.
Ingo takes a critical banking feature away and criminalizes you without due process by prohibiting you from depositing fund by rejecting every check, locking you out and blackballing customers. Not to mention ruining said check by having to endorse it to Ingo and them subsequently rejecting it.
Ingo rejected a check for $15.00 written to me from Disney for writing residuals. They rejected my income tax check and banned me. Now I cannot deposit checks anywhere Ingo is a 3rd party partner. And yet companies continue to use them even though they are not a helpful tool or company in my opinion and how this company became the go to for mobile check deposits is nothing short of criminal.
They have no business in banking and they surely have no place in your phone and instead impedes you from being able to utilize a feature promoted to you as a working product. That could not be further from the truth.

WARNING DO NOT USE!! 0n 12/01/2023 I had 11 UNAUTHORIZED TRANSACTIONS totalling $950.00 ON MY Brinks card. I blocked card same day notified Brinks and made police report sent it to Brinks. Brinks has failed to credit my money back thus VIOLATING THE CARD HOLDER AGREEMENT AND THE ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER ACT.
I have initiated the process with CONSUMER FRAUD LEGAL SERVICES. They have been successful suing NETSPEND/BRINKS each time they have had too. Several times matter of fact. DO NOT USE NETSPEND OR BRINKS.
DO NOT, AND I REPEAT DO NOT ISE BRINKS FOR PREPAID SERVICES, 2 Wekks In A Rowoney was taken out of my account, 600 one week, and 265 the next, this was June 30th, and I still haven’t gotten my money back yet, but they sent out a payout check on the 20th which was last week and I still haven’t seen it yet, they say they made a mistake, okay if you all made a mistake, then my check should have been express delivery, people have bills to pay and family’s to take care of!!!!! They are a ripoff PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT US THEM FOR ANY OF YOUR MONEY HANDLING
Would not recommend brinks to anyone, had to close my account because 2 weeks in a row they made a mistake and money was sent to someone else from my account this was june30th, it took them 16 days to do a investigation so on June 17 they said a payout was issued, now they say it’s gonna be another2 weeks before I receive my payout check?? It should has been overnight or fed ex since they made the mistake PLEASE DO NOT USE BRINKS
Brinks are nothing but thief’s u can’t get your money back.. & their automated system sucks..
