Things We Like

With the important exception of the $2.50 charge per ATM withdrawal, JH Preferred Prepaid Visa has relatively low fees, which can be lowered by eliminating the monthly fee by direct depositing $1000 or more per month.

Things We Dislike

Bill pay payees are limited and the rewards program is weak.

Like H&R Block and other tax preparation companies, Jackson Hewitt now has its own prepaid card. The JH Preferred Prepaid Visa Card, like those of its competitors, promotes itself as a quick way to get your tax refund – and it is much faster to get your tax refund loaded onto a prepaid card than it is to wait for a paper check. Additionally, every time you load at least $1000 onto your card in a month the $3 monthly account fee is waived. Strangely, though, direct deposit of a tax refund doesn’t count towards the $1000. The card can be ordered online or picked up at one of the many Jackson Hewitt offices nationwide.

Although the card’s website touts the rewards JH Preferred cardholders can earn, the only real perk seems to be getting $15 added to your account if you set up direct deposit. The card also offers bill pay options and text and email alerts but the list of payees for bill pay is sparse. Worst of all, at $2.50 per withdrawal, getting cash from an ATM is expensive.

Bottom line: Yes, getting a JH Preferred Prepaid Visa Card means you can get your tax refund faster than if you wait for the IRS to mail you a check. But the lack of perks and a $2.50 fee for withdrawing cash from an ATM is a steep price to pay for a quick tax refund.

I’m just trying to find out the Balance on my Card, it say’s to find 6 digit number on Card, but there is no 6 digit number. The number imprinted on the Card on the back, is not the correct number.

I’m so sorry you are having trouble. We are not actually the card issuing company, you will need to contact them directly. We are BestPrepaidDebitCards.com, our goal is to provide the best information possible to help you make an informed decision on which card is best for you or your family member. Good luck!

I am waiting for my tax refund to be posted to my account. Can’t even get information on where it was sent, or if it has been received.

Thank you for your comment. On the back of your card, you should have an 800 number for their customer support. They should be able to help you. We review cards on the website, but unfortunately, we can not access cardholder information for any of the cards we review on the site. What card issuer are you working with?

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulty. I found some contact information in case the number you have been trying is not working. It is on this page at the very bottom. https://www.jhpreferred.com/home.html?country=US&csrfToken=wzXrwP7BhzuZYOceCjKQ0Uht5ebMKysA

“For customers of other states with questions or complaints, please contact customer service at 1.855.598.4818” Once you get in touch with them, they should be able to credit back the monthly fees. If you do not have any luck with their customer support by phone, you can mail them your information about the problem. Here is that address. That is an extra step, but you would have it in writing. Hopefully, it does not have to go further, but you can report to Attorney General’s office or Better Business Bureau if you do not get a satisfactory resolution.

My card was hacked on July 20. I called as soon as I noticed which was July 20. I have called four times since then and still have not received a card it is now August 17. The customer care people don’t really seem inspired to help or send a replacement in a timely manner. This is ridiculous!! I have a fair balance on my card that is for bills which still are not paid because it takes over a **** month to get a new one. Extremely unsatisfied. You will never do my taxes again as long as I breath.

So another 7 to 10 days to wait for a card because of the total epic failure of your company. Apparently 30 days is not enough time to respond to a customer it now takes 40 days. Your staff is the most uncaring robotic people I have ever had the displeasure of talking to. Over six hours spent on the phone 4 or 5 calls and even faced with the total failure in their profession they still will do not hing but the standard read of the response sheet. I will ne contacting my lawyer.
